How to compare builders
Size tells you how likely you are to find one of their sites near you, not how good the homes are. A builder with 200 developments has a house type for most budgets; a smaller regional name may only build in one county but know it far better.
The things worth checking are specific to the plot, not the brand: what the scheme's management charges are, whether the roads and open spaces will be adopted by the council or left with a private management company, how many homes are still unsold on a large site, and what the warranty actually covers. Two homes from the same builder on different sites can be very different purchases.
